Hazmat incident at Burbank public pool

A Hazardous Materials team was dispatched the McCambridge Park swimming pool in Burbank, California, after a chemical mix-up involving sodium hypochlorite and muriatic acid.

The April incident was caused by a leak during the transfer of chemicals from a delivery truck to the park’s pool. The leak was stopped by the truck driver prior to arrival of first responders. The truck driver was transported by paramedics to a nearby hospital for evaluation. No other injuries were reported.

Upon arrival to the scene, Burbank Fire crews reported the incident to the HazMat units.

Four engines from Burbank and Glendale, two Burbank paramedic units, an Air Utility from Glendale, and a couple of battalion chiefs from Burbank were also dispatched to the scene.

McCambridge Park facilities, including the tennis center and gym, were evacuated as a precaution and remained closed for several hours following the spill.
