The Independent Pool and Spa Service Association (IPSSA) has announced the winners of new awards for IPSSA members that recognize excellence in the pool and spa service industry through demonstrated acts of community, education, and support. These awards were formally presented to IPSSA members at their annual banquet on Saturday, February 3, 2024.
The IPSSA Chapter of the Year award was given to the Region 7 San Diego Metro Chapter — a chapter that is focused on inspiring other IPSSA members and pool and spa service professionals throughout the industry. This chapter alone raised more than $21 thousand from several auctions and a regional picnic. The funds went to numerous recipients including: The San Diego Drowning Prevention Foundation; two swim schools; a gift to the family of a longtime PEP employee who recently died of cancer; gift cards to a family in the area who lost their home to a fire; donations to homeless students; and funds to several other local San Diego charities. The Region 7 San Diego Metro Chapter qualified for the award because it was one of two IPSSA chapters to increase its membership and because 100 percent of its members have completed compliant water chemistry courses and have provided sick route coverage for their members and members in nearby chapters.
The newest award created by IPSSA, The Pool Professional of Tomorrow Award, was given to Aden Dunne of Classic Pools & Spas in Encinitas, California. Raised in the pool industry while riding in his family’s service truck after school, Aden exemplifies the IPPSA core values of community, education, and support while working constantly to ensure the IPSSA association members are kept up to speed on the latest technology and investing in helping members get the education and support they need to be successful.
Rose Smoot, Executive Director of IPSSA, said they are excited by the enthusiastic response they received about the new awards.
“We are pleased to honor the hard work and success of both the Region 7 San Diego Metro Chapter as well as the accomplishments of Aden Dunne,” she said. “We always look forward to gathering for our annual ‘Weekend of Inspiration,’ where we formally present these awards.”
Since its inception in 1988, IPSSA was established to promote educational opportunities and provide business support and resources for its members. These awards are part of IPSSA’s continued desire to engage members. The criteria reflect the organization’s core values of community, education, and support. The “Weekend of Inspiration” was held at the Westin Long Beach in Long Beach, California, on February 3 and 4, 2024.
