The owners of a South Carolina pool building company were arrested and charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent.
Josh and Ashley Ingram, owners of Indigo Pools in Dorchester County, are accused of taking money and leaving customers with unfinished and dangerous pools. The pair were arrested in December and individually charged before being released on bond.
Many of their disgruntled customers said they never expected to see the couple behind bars.
“It sounds bad, but I was excited; I was elated,” said Brandy Sutherland, an Indigo Pools customer. “I was happy that the people who were their victims are finally getting a little bit of justice. I mean, they might get out of jail temporarily, but at least they’re being held accountable.”
Sutherland is the original customer named in a class action lawsuit involving nearly 100 people that was filed in November 2022.
When he heard of their arrests, Dan Anessi, another customer, said he didn’t think he could have gotten a better Christmas present.
“We’ve been waiting on this for years, and we didn’t think this would happen,” Anessi said. “We’re just grateful that some of the people pursued it hard and finally got a judge to sign off on it. So now it’s time to pay up.”
Anessi said that his experience with the Ingrams has opened his eyes to how unregulated the pool industry is and the gaps in the legal system.
“We want them to do time in jail, but we also want the local officials and the state officials to maybe take heed of this,” Anessi said. “We’re not the only people that had to deal with a company doing this. There’s been multiple companies in the state that have had the same situation where they’ve ripped people off. I think it’s time that the state stepped in.”
